Who we are

SayCooee is operated by Amber Chapman (ABN 52 976 893 113), trading as SayCooee, based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

SayCooee ("we", "us", "our") is an Australian community platform that helps neighbours connect with each other. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

By using our website at say-cooee.web.app or any related services ("the Platform"), you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

What personal information we collect

We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it to us. The information we may collect includes:

We do not collect sensitive information (such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, or criminal records) unless you voluntarily include it in a free-text field. We recommend you do not include sensitive information in your listings or messages.

Why we collect your information

We collect and use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your community membership and listings
  • To match you with other community members based on your suburb, interests, and what you offer or need
  • To facilitate on-platform messaging between matched members
  • To send you transactional emails (e.g. join confirmation, match notifications, message notifications)
  • To send you community updates and platform news (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • To process payments for Pro trader listings (via Stripe)
  • To improve the Platform and understand how it is used
  • To comply with our legal obligations
  • To investigate and respond to reports of misuse or unsafe conduct

We will not use your personal information for any purpose other than those listed above without your prior consent.

How we store your information

Your personal information is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore database and Firebase Authentication), operated by Google LLC. Firebase data for Australian users is stored in Google's data centres. Google's infrastructure is ISO 27001 certified and complies with international security standards.

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include:

  • Firestore security rules that restrict read and write access to authorised uses only
  • HTTPS encryption on all data transmitted to and from the Platform
  • Limiting access to personal data to the platform operator (Amber Chapman) only
  • Not storing payment card information on our systems — all payment processing is handled by Stripe

We retain your personal information for as long as your account or listing is active, or as long as necessary to provide our services. If you request deletion of your information, we will delete it within 30 days, subject to any legal obligation to retain it.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information to any third party. We may share limited information in the following circumstances:

Google FirebaseYour data is stored in Firebase (Google). Firebase acts as a data processor on our behalf and does not use your data for its own purposes.
StripeIf you pay for a Pro listing, your billing information is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details.
Email service providerWe use a transactional email service (such as SendGrid or Resend) to send you confirmation and notification emails. Your email address is shared with this provider solely for this purpose.
Law enforcement / legal obligationsWe may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.

What we never do

We never sell your personal information. We never share your email address or phone number with other members without your explicit consent. We never use your information for advertising profiling or share it with advertisers. We never send your data outside of the service providers listed in Section 5.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or out-of-date information
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Opt out — unsubscribe from marketing and community update emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us directly
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with us, or with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au, if you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles

Children's privacy

SayCooee is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are between 16 and 18 years of age, you should have parental or guardian consent before using the Platform.

If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at amber@saycooee.com.au and we will delete the information promptly.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymous usage data, including pages visited, time on site, and general geographic location (city/country level). This data does not identify you personally and is used solely to understand how the Platform is used and to improve it.

Firebase uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect this data. By using the Platform, you consent to this use. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect the functionality of the site.

We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies (such as Facebook Pixel or Google Ads). If we add these in future, we will update this policy and add a cookie consent notice to the Platform.

Third party websites and services

The Platform may contain links to third party websites (such as supplier websites or community group pages on Facebook). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties and recommend you review their privacy policies separately.

Our Platform is hosted on Google Firebase. Our email services are provided by SendGrid or Resend. Payment processing is provided by Stripe Inc. Each of these providers has its own privacy policy, which governs their handling of data in connection with their services.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will publish the updated policy on this page with a revised "last updated" date.

For significant changes that affect how we use your personal information, we will endeavour to notify you by email or via a notice on the Platform before the change takes effect.

Your continued use of the Platform after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
